A couple of logo's
A few of logos for a project I'm going to undertake. I suppose it would be a good idea to tell you a bit about the projet so you'll have a better idea I'm designing for.
I'm combining my two hobies of learning Chinese and developing. It's going to be a desktop app to aid in learning a language.
The first batch really have that acidemic look to them, but due to the white outline they don't look as good on light coloured backgrounds.
The second set is just playing around with some fonts and positioning. I don't think any of them will make the cut as is, maybe something can be added to give them some life.
These last two are just from the above two with a bit of life pumped into them. They both scale decently, and both have the ability to grab someone's attention.
Let me know what you think. What one stands out and pulls your eye's to it (in a good way of course).

Re: A couple of logo's
Personally like the 2nd on blue background, 2nd with green text and stuff aswell as the last one, except a diffrent Font for the last one I guess but the Colour and Positioning on it seemed to fit.
Probably still like the 2nd Green best tho as the globe just seems to magicaly fit in there as the O replacer with the colours used there and the 360 in a blueish colour right after it.
Maybe would look beter if the 360 would stand in a smaller font size under the Globe thingy just like the last one.
Might have written this shit abit fucked up but its 00:32 sunday and Im tired ^^

Re: A couple of logo's
I never noticed how the globe naturally fits into spot for the second green one. It looks so nice that I think I'll play around with that one and see if I can make it better.
So far I'm with Ethan and think the second last one will have the most pulling power, it's a bit wide though.
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: A couple of logo's
If using the 2nd last one I would atleast like to see it with the E and the 3 around the globe to me in the same shape with kind of same distance to the globe (right now th E got like triangle added on the end of middle thingy sticking into the globe ^^)
It looks ok but dont really like the font type like to pressed together imo which makes it abit harder to ready with the kind of letters/font it uses.
Simple things with pro looks beats everything tho, 2nd last looks for the pro part and 2nd green for simplity so far.
If you make any changes feel free to post here would like to see them

Re: A couple of logo's
I have to agree simplicity is always best. Don't make your prospect think
I really do love the second to last one, but the problem I have with it is that my attention is always drawn to the globe and not the text. I want the prospect to remember the name of my product not a little picture.
So I modified one of the green and blue ones because the globe was included more subtlety. I think this is the final draft. It scales well, it's simple, easy to remember, and it can be easily adjusted to look good on different colour backgrounds.
Scaled down
Normal Size
Black Background

Scaled down one looks normal for me the bigger it gets the more childish maybe? lol I dont know looks okay to me depends on what it was going to be used for again (forgot and wont bother reading up there now

Re: A couple of logo's
I like the second one of the second set, with the globe as the o, but moreso I like the style where the E fits around the globe from one side and the 3 from the other side. However, that might just be a matter of the font, which as previously stated, looks a tad... childish might be the right word.

Re: A couple of logo's
Yeah now that you all mention the one in post #6 does have a bit of a childish look to it. It is an academic program but most likely won't be used by children.
I think it's down to these two models of logos. Both have good points and weak points.
From post #6 it's simple, very easy to read (which is good for non-native speakers) and should be easy to remember. I think when looking at this people will remember what the product is called. This is also an ideal shape for a logo since the prospects eye's don't need to scroll at all, they can just look at it and absorb it.
The second last one from post one may have more pulling power (I'm not so sure about this now), but I'm worried it'll be a little difficult for people to read, and that they'll just focus on the globe and kind of blankly stare at without really absorbing the product name (it does look good though). The one other downfall to this one is that it's a little wide meaning the prospect may have to scroll their eyes to see it all.
There's no big rush to make a decision, it's going to take a LONG time to develop this so I'll have plenty of time to hunt down a few people and get their opinions.
Anyways, let me know what you think about the final two.

Re: A couple of logo's
Unrelated to the logo, but to your business idea. You should take a look at:
http://www.thelinguist.com/
http://www.lingq.com/
Both of these are run by Steve Kaufmann, a guy who speaks nine languages fluently. I read his blog and he has a lot of good insight into the business.
I do see your concern about the logos. Perhaps try a few different fonts in each style?
