Photoshop: Cut Out Signature

Published on the 10th of March 2005

By Kristoffer Aronsson

In this tutorial you'll learn how to make a cut out signature in easy steps. It can be used as a signature, but also as a header for a website layout or just a normal banner. Let's get started shall we?

1. Open up a picture you have already made previously, it could be anything from a nice effect to a photo. I choose a rather common metallic effect.

2. Create a new layer and fill it with any color you like. This will be your outer border. I choose a darker gray (#505152).

3. Now click on the "Polygonal Lasso Tool" and start cutting out the image. To make straight lines, hold SHIFT.

4. Hit DELETE on your keyboard and viola!

5. This step is optional; it just makes the outer border look more stylish. Go to blending options. Add some "Bevel and Emboss" and change the "Opacity" to 35% on both. Add a "Pattern Overlay" (I added a grid). Then add a one pixel border.

6. Now just add some text and you're done!
